STEM Tutor
My work at SATRO included developing and providing workshops and challenges for Primary and Secondary schools.
This included:
Primary (Y1 to Y6)
- Lego Coding - building and coding a range of machines including vehicles and earthquake simulators
- Micro:bit Coding - coding robotic vehicles to navigate courses and display messages
- Engineering Challenges - designing, manufacturing and testing bridges and skyscrapers
- Electricity & Renewable Energy - Using electronic kits to support the Y4/Y6 curriculum by incorporating a range of components and circuits plus an insight into where our energy comes from
- Energy Saving Challenge - an inter-school challenge guiding student Eco-groups to save energy
- Rural Roads - workshop to improve road safety and sustainability awareness
- Problem Solving Challenge - inter-school competition to solve a problem, judged by volunteers from industry
- Fun Maths - a wide range of maths based problems to solve
Secondary (Y7 to Y13)
Problem Solving Challenge
- Inter-school competition to solve a problem using everyday materials
- 40 or more schools involved
- 100 teams
- 600 students
- 5 heats plus a final
- Judged by volunteers from Industry
- Focus on sustainability
Sports Arena Challenge
- School based challenge
- Up to 240 students per day
- 5 to 12 students per team
- Design and build an Olympic Park
- Estimate construction cost
- Present ideas on future use of the park
